Hope Boykin was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina, and was a three-time recipient of the American Dance Festival’s Young Tuition Scholarship. She attended Howard University in Washington, DC., when she felt a call to move to New York City to study at The Ailey School. Hope worked as assistant to choreographers Milton Myers and the late Talley Beatty, was an original member of Complexions, and danced many years with Philadanco, The Philadelphia Dance Company. Hope joined The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 2000, where she continues to perform her duties as a dancer as well as her work as an educator, mentor, speaker, and choreographer. LDF Summer Dance Intensive - 6-25 to 6-29-18
Laguna Beach High School Dance Studio

Laguna Dance Festival’s summer intensive brings internationally renowned dance artists Desmond Richardson and Jodie Gates, plus LA-based high profile commercial choreographers to Laguna Beach for 5 full days of dance. Included in this one-of-a-kind experience are technique classes, composition, repertory and professional networking opportunities from June 25 – June 29. The class will be limited in number, allowing the dancers to take advantage of individual coaching and mentoring during this most unique opportunity in Laguna Beach.
Schedule. The intensive program features two tracks:
*Track A: Full daily schedule (11am – 5pm), including ballet and contemporary technique, contemporary repertory, composition and seminars. This 5-day intensive is designed for intermediate/advanced pre-professional students ages 14 and up. Cost: $500.00.
Track B: Daily morning class (9am- 10:30) designed for intermediate adult dancers (25 and older) including ballet and contemporary technique. Cost: $200.00.
*Students may register for both Track A and Track B. Students who register for Track A and are under age 25 are welcome to register for Track B on a space available basis. Please indicate your interest to add Track B via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. We will add you to a waiting list. You will be notified in May if space is available.

Desmond Richardson: A national dance treasure, stage and screen star, co-founder, co-artistic director of Complexions Contemporary Ballet. Former principal dancer with the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, Frankfurt Ballet and American Ballet Theatre. Tony award nominated Broadway performer, singer and film actor.
Jodie Gates: Vice Dean of USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance where she leads the teaching philosophy of today’s successful “hybrid dancer.” Former principal ballerina with the Joffrey Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet and Frankfurt Ballet. Nationally recognized choreographer and stager of William Forsythe’s ballets.

Additional Details. Registration deadline is May 1, 2018, space is limited. Payment in full is due at the time of registration and is non-refundable. LDF programs typically sell out quickly so early registration is recommended. Registration for each track will be capped at 30 students. Laguna Dance Festival reserves the right to cancel the program if sufficient registrations are not received by May 1, 2018. In the event of cancellation by LDF, fees will be refunded in full.
