In 2014, we celebrated Jodie Gates, who was named the "Art Star Winner" by the Laguna Beach Arts Alliance for her exceptional contributions to the arts.
This year featured an engaging lineup, including a pre-show talk with Desmond Richardson and dancers from Complexions Contemporary Ballet, as well as discussions with Lillian Barbeito and Tina Finkelman Berkett, Co-Directors of BODYTRAFFIC, and Tamara Hoffman, Senior Ballet Mistress of Ballet Memphis. Participants enjoyed master classes with notable artists such as Desmond Richardson, Co-Founder of Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Gonzalo Garcia, Principal Dancer with New York City Ballet, and Saleemah Knight. Additional offerings included a master class with Brian Hirano and Aris Paracuelles of Quest Crew, along with a Hip Hop and Broadway Jazz Intensive led by Lisa Jay and Darrien Henning. Hope Boykin of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater also conducted a master class.
The festival featured a master class series, three pre-show lectures, four new choreographic works honoring female choreographers based in Southern California, and a new work choreographed by Bernard Gaddis (original composition by Alan Chan played by students of USC Thornton.) It also featured four evenings of professional dance featuring Ballet Memphis, BodyTraffic and “Star of Dance” gala, at the Laguna Playhouse.
