LDF SUMMER DANCE INTENSIVE

LDF SUMMER DANCE INTENSIVE 6–25 TO 6–29, 2018

Laguna Dance Festival’s summer intensive brings internationally renowned dance artists Desmond Richardson and Jodie Gates, plus LA-based high profile commercial choreographers to Laguna Beach for 5 full days of dance. Included in this one-of-a-kind experience are technique classes, composition, repertory and professional networking opportunities from June 25 – June 29. The class will be limited in number, allowing the dancers to take advantage of individual coaching and mentoring during this most unique opportunity in Laguna Beach.

Schedule. The intensive program features two tracks:

*Track A: Full daily schedule (11am – 5pm), including ballet and contemporary technique, contemporary repertory, composition and seminars. This 5-day intensive is designed for intermediate/advanced pre-professional students ages 14 and up. Cost: $500.00.  Track A is currently sold out. 

Track B: Daily morning class (9am- 10:30) designed for intermediate adult dancers (25 and older) including ballet and contemporary technique. Cost: $200.00.

*Students may register for both Track A and Track B.  Students who register for Track A and are under age 25 are welcome to register for Track B on a space available basis.  Please indicate your interest to add Track B via email to info@192.241.216.73. We will add you to a waiting list.  You will be notified in May if space is available.
NOTE: All students must complete a liability release either email it to the address above or bring it the first day of class.

Faculty

Desmond Richardson: A national dance treasure, stage and screen star, co-founder, co-artistic director of Complexions Contemporary Ballet. Former principal dancer with the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, Frankfurt Ballet and American Ballet Theatre. Tony award nominated Broadway performer, singer and film actor.

Jodie Gates: Vice Dean of USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance where she leads the teaching philosophy of today’s successful “hybrid dancer.” Former principal ballerina with the Joffrey Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet and Frankfurt Ballet. Nationally recognized choreographer and stager of William Forsythe’s ballets.

Gillian Finley: Danced professionally with Ballet Pacifica, Nevada Dance Theatre and Eugene Ballet. Holds a B.A. in Dance from University of California, Irvine and an M.A. in Arts Management from American University. For ten years, she served as the director of Ballet Pacifica’s elite Conservatory program under company director, Molly Lynch. Ms. Finley is a certified Stott Pilates instructor and has been teaching pilates for over eight years. She is currently on the faculties of USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance, Long Beach Ballet and Focus Dance Center specializing in ballet technique, pointe, classical variations, classical repertoire and pilates.

Will Johnston: Credits include Clear Talent, Sonya Tayeh, Stacey Tookey, Justin Giles, Erica Sobol, Donald McKayle, Loretta Livingston, Jodie Gates, Wade Robson, Tyce Diorio, Christopher Scott, So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing with the Stars, Glee, Son Lux, Sigur Ros, FARR, X Ambassadors, and Katy Perry. Co-director of Entity Contemporary Dance and a faculty member at West Coast Dance Explosion, Murrieta Dance Project, and Chapman University. Has taught and choreographed across the United States, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Taiwan, Japan, and Australia.

Additional Details. Registration deadline is May 1, 2018, space is limited. Payment in full is due at the time of registration and is non-refundable. LDF programs typically sell out quickly so early registration is recommended. Registration for each track will be capped at 30 students. Laguna Dance Festival reserves the right to cancel the program if sufficient registrations are not received by May 1, 2018. In the event of cancellation by LDF, fees will be refunded in full.
